Tall and pantry cabinet sizes: height, depth, widths and how they line up
A pantry is one tall box that stands on the floor and reaches the top of the wall cabinets beside it. The sizes a dealer orders most often are few: 24 inches deep, 18 or 24 inches wide, and 84 or 96 inches tall. An oven cabinet is the same family, 30 inches wide, so a standard wall oven fits.
Nominal sizes; always check the manufacturer's spec book, especially for ceiling height and crown molding.
Standard tall cabinet sizes
| Box | Width | Height | SKU | Lines up with |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pantry | 18 | 84 | U1884 | 30-inch wall cabinets hung at 54 |
| Pantry | 24 | 84 | U2484 | 30-inch wall cabinets hung at 54 |
| Pantry | 18 | 96 | U1896 | 42-inch wall cabinets hung at 54 |
| Pantry | 24 | 96 | U2496 | 42-inch wall cabinets hung at 54 |
| Oven | 30 | 84 | OV3084 | the same 84-inch line as U1884 |
In a tall SKU the digits are width, then height. U1884 is 18 wide and 84 tall. U2496 is 24 wide and 96 tall. Depth stays out of the short code because a tall box is 24 deep, the same as a base. Some lines write the depth in, as in U188424 (18 wide, 84 tall, 24 deep), and add a hinge letter after that. Quote the SKU exactly as the spec book prints it. Prefixes U, T, P, UT, PC and OV are covered in the SKU codes guide.
How the height meets the wall cabinets
The bottom of the wall cabinets sits 54 inches from the floor, which is an 18-inch gap above a 36-inch counter. Add the wall cabinet height and you have the top of the pantry:
- 84 inches: 54 plus a 30-inch upper. U1884 and U2484 stop where those uppers stop.
- 96 inches: 54 plus a 42-inch upper. U1896 and U2496 reach an 8-foot ceiling.
- 90 inches: 54 plus a 36-inch upper. Some lines sell a 90-inch pantry. The starter set includes 84 and 96.
On a 9-foot ceiling (108 inches) a 96-inch pantry still leaves 12 inches above. Check whether the line sells a taller box, or a cabinet stacked on the pantry, before you leave that gap open. Measure the ceiling at several points. An old house can lose half an inch across a wall, and a 96-inch pantry with crown has no room for that.
Wall heights, the 54-inch line and the over-refrigerator boxes are in wall cabinet dimensions.
Depth, and where the box sits
A tall cabinet is 24 inches deep and stands on the floor in the base run, with the same toe kick as the bases beside it. It is not hung. The wall run stops where the pantry starts. The exposed side of a refrigerator is often closed with a tall end panel, REP2496, 24 inches deep and 96 tall, three-quarters of an inch thick. That panel is a finished side, not a pantry you can store in.
The oven cabinet
OV3084 is 30 inches wide, 84 tall and 24 deep, sized for a standard wall oven. The oven opening is part of the box. Confirm the cutout against the appliance installation guide before you order. The starter set has this one oven cabinet, at 84 inches.
The gap beside a pantry
The last inches between a pantry and the wall are a filler, cut to the gap. The starter set includes F3 and F6. See cabinet filler strips for how the gap is measured, and the full size chart in kitchen cabinet sizes.
How Cabinet Project uses these sizes
The starter line every new company gets includes U1884, U2484, U1896, U2496 and OV3084, at list price 0 until you import your manufacturer's price list. A quote built only on the starter line comes out at zero until that import. The prices are left at zero on purpose, so a number is never invented for you.
The quick estimate takes base linear feet, wall linear feet, and the number of tall cabinets. Base and wall runs are priced per foot from the boxes of that line. Each tall cabinet is priced on its own, from the median of the line's tall boxes. A pantry is one heavy box, so it does not get folded into the linear-foot rate. The method is in kitchen cabinet cost per linear foot, and the base boxes that share the run are in base cabinet dimensions.
Price a pantry on the 14-day trial. You draw with these starter sizes, then import your own price list before the quote has a dollar amount.
