Kitchen cabinet design software built to get the box list right
Most cabinet design programs are built to sell the kitchen with a picture. Cabinet Project's editor is built for the step after: a drawing that knows what fits, so the box list, the quote and the order to the manufacturer come out right the first time.
What you can draw
- Walls in sequence, one to three or more, turning 90° at each end: a straight run, an L or a U. Lengths in inches, down to 1/16″.
- Windows and doors on each wall. A door blocks the whole wall along its width. A window blocks from its sill up, so base cabinets can run under it and wall cabinets stop at the casing.
- Appliances: range, refrigerator, dishwasher and hood or microwave, at standard widths or a custom size. They take space and collide like boxes but are never priced.
- Corners. Two boxes cannot share the corner square. Blind corner, lazy susan and diagonal wall cabinets take their real space on the next wall, and the blind corner gets its pull filler. See standard kitchen cabinet sizes for the boxes involved.
- Islands and peninsulas with cabinets on the kitchen side, the seating side or both, and a countertop overhang for stools. The plan shows the distance to the nearest wall and turns it red below 36″ of walkway.
The editor does the fussy parts
| Situation | What the editor does |
|---|---|
| A box overlaps another, a window or the end of the wall | Red outline while you drag; the box is not placed |
| A gap smaller than the narrowest box of that kind | Fills it with the line's filler SKU, counting how many strips it takes |
| A gap wide enough for a box or appliance | Leaves it open and lists it in the summary strip |
| A box at an exposed end of an island or peninsula | Marks a finished end on that side |
| A box that does not fit when you change its size | Refuses and says how many inches are missing |
Every box carries its hinge side (left, right or a pair, from one door up to 24″ and two above) and finished ends left or right. You can drag with a 1″ snap, nudge with the arrow keys, duplicate into the next gap, and undo or redo up to 50 steps.
Plan, elevation and 3D
The same drawing shows as a plan from above, an elevation of each wall (and each side of an island) with the SKU on every box, and a simple 3D view in the door color of the chosen line. The 3D view is a working model you can turn and zoom, not a photoreal rendering. For a realistic picture, the customer portal has a kitchen render from a photo of the homeowner's own kitchen in the chosen door style.
"Send to client" saves the 3D, the plan and each elevation as images in the project, and the customer sees them in the portal next to the quote.
From drawing to quote in one press
"Price this layout" turns the drawing into a quote on the same line: each wall becomes an area ("Wall 1", "Wall 2", "Island") with its own subtotal, the same SKU with another hinge or finished end becomes its own line, a corner cabinet counts once, and appliances stay out. Pricing then follows the rules on the cabinet quoting page: list × your multiplier, labor lines and tax. Splitting by wall never changes a cent of the total.
Measuring the room
Type the wall lengths from your tape, or on an iPhone or iPad with ARKit measure a wall with the camera, point to point. For what to measure before you draw (openings, sill heights, appliance spaces), see how to measure a kitchen for cabinets.
What it is not
- Not a rendering studio. No photoreal scenes, lighting or countertop materials.
- Not shop software. No cut lists, CNC or sheet goods; that is Mozaik's or Cabinet Vision's job. See Mozaik next to Cabinet Project.
- Not a catalog service. You load your own manufacturer's price list; the editor uses its boxes and sizes.
The editor is on every paid plan. If you already design in ProKitchen, see ProKitchen next to Cabinet Project for where each one fits.
Questions
Is this a replacement for 2020 Design or ProKitchen?
Not for presentation. Those programs make photoreal renderings and keep manufacturer catalogs for you. Cabinet Project's editor is a plan, elevation and simple 3D view made to get a correct box list and price it. Many dealers design in one and run the job in the other.
Can I start drawing before I load a price list?
Yes. Every new company gets a Starter sizes line with the standard US boxes by nominal size, so you can draw right away. Its prices are zero on purpose: import your manufacturer's price list to quote.
Does it work on an iPhone?
Yes, the editor runs on phone, tablet and desktop. On an iPhone or iPad with ARKit you can also measure a wall with the camera, point to point, and the length goes into the wall field.
